HELLO DOHA!

25th July 2011

We arrived Doha at night for our transit flight to Paris.
It was a very long wait and I was lamenting how long the wait was gonna be and how jet-lagged i felt.
Despite having two good meals on board, I was still hungry after arriving at the airport. N had no choice but to accompany me to find something to eat before we could find a place to rest.

The Doha Airport is very spacious and most of the Qatar airplanes will make a stop-over here. The currency that Doha uses Qatari Rial, QR for short. Conversion rate of 1QR to SGD is about SGD$0.33. I can't comment on the standard of living in Doha but the standard of living in Doha Airport is high. I bought a salad while N bought his large cup of Pepsi. So EXPENSIVE can!!

This bowl of salad costs SGD 12.  :S

This cup of coke costs SGD$3.50. & that's pepsi in arabic.

As Qatar Airlines mostly does transits at Doha, they have many resting chairs in place and most people would just lie horizontally across a few chairs for short rests. Besides that, Qatar airline have rest lounges. Most people would be resting at the Oryx Lounge. It costs about 40 Euros. While there are Silver and Gold Lounges, these are reserved for their members or business class passengers.

While we did not enter the lounge after much contemplation, it is still very worthwhile to pay the money and have buffet, free internet use, showering facilities and proper place to rest.

For us, we did what most people do over there - we find a long stretch of chairs for us to catch some sleep. Honestly, it's not the best bed you can have but better than sleeping on cold hard floors. Thankfully, N brought his sleeping bag so I got to keep my head elevated. My head was pounding prior to this when I tried sleeping on those chairs because of the blood flowing to my head. :( Anyway, it was a good rest and here's the best part - WE SAW A BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE! :DDD

The trick is to find a good spot to rest and wake up to a nice view. :) But it was just sheer luck for us.

Here are some of the flight food that we have on Qatar Airlines.

Ok that's it! Paris post up next. Stay tune!
